Blue Ridge Sustainability provides independent, expert critical review of Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs), Product Category Rules (PCRs), and Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Our approach combines rigorous evaluation against applicable standards with practical, constructive feedback that helps practitioners produce technically robust, transparent, and defensible studies.


Blue Ridge Sustainability was founded by C. Jason Pierce, an ACLCA Certified Life Cycle Assessment Practitioner and Certified LCA Reviewer with more than 20 years of experience in life cycle assessment and technical sustainability thought leadership, and more than 30 years of technical and innovation leadership experience in the chemicals, plastics, and specialty materials industries.


Jason’s experience extends far beyond conducting and reviewing LCAs. He has contributed to the development and implementation of LCA, product carbon footprint, corporate greenhouse gas reporting methodologies and industry standards, including International Standards Organization (ISO), Greenhouse Gas Protocol Actions & Market Instruments, and chemical-sector initiatives including Together for Sustainability (TfS) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).


Jason also brings deep expertise in mass balance and book & claim chain-of-custody systems, including operational experience with ISCC PLUS and extensive participation as a U.S. technical expert in the development of the ISO 22095 series of chain-of-custody standards.


This combination of hands-on LCA practice, independent critical review, industry experience, and standards development provides a broad technical perspective for evaluating complex studies—particularly those involving chemicals, plastics, specialty materials, recycled and circular feedstocks, and emerging approaches to industrial decarbonization.


Jason received the 2023 ACLCA Corporate Leadership Award in recognition of his contributions to advancing life cycle assessment.


Blue Ridge Sustainability is based in Northeast Tennessee and serves clients throughout the United States.
